Easter sans Grandparents due to Covid 19 Coronavirus 2020

Posted on April 11, 2020April 18, 2020 by Jackie

Today brings Easter – a holiday often shared with grandparents, the large ham dinner, Easter egg hunts, chocolates and jelly beans, marshmallow chicks and finally solemn discussions with the young children on the true meaning of Easter – *hint not about a bunny.

While some grandparents are lucky enough to still spend this day with their grandchildren, others (like myself and my husband) continue to work outside the home as essential employees and better serve our families by keeping our distance.

This year more than any other in our lifetime, the real meaning of this Easter Holiday has significance. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is considered by many Christians the most important date on their calendar.

Holy week precedes Easter and includes Palm Sunday, Thursday (the day of the Last Supper) and Good Friday (Christ’s crucifixion) these are only a few of the Religion based dates (access to the internet provides much more detail) that should be discussed with children as they partake of the abundance of dinner and sweets this year.

As adults most of us are experiencing some trepidation due to Covid 19 Coronavirus and no doubt our young children/grandchildren will pick up on this and share some of the anxieties.

Of course this isn’t what we want for them and sharing the story of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and all the miracles of love and hope this brings can only help. The internet provides ample information with age appropriate dialog for sharing these stories with our young family members.

Happy Easter!
